Need Help?

How can Good Friends help you or your relative?

You may have seen Good Friends advertised around Darlington, and wondered whether it could help you in your day to day life. Since the launch of the project on October 1st 2013 we have had an excellent response to the project from the public - and there are now 100's of Good Friends registered to the service all over Darlington.

These are people who may work full-time, have child-care responsibilities or even new to the area - however the one thing they all share in common is that they want to help the people in their area who need a little extra support.

There are a variety of odd-jobs and small tasks that a Good Friend could help you with, and it may only be for a short while - but we hope that they will become Good Friends, and neighbours, for life. For example:

  • You may have been in Hospital recently, and need your dog walking once every few days. A Good Friend would love to help.
  • Are you new to the area? Many people are down-sizing to assisted living homes and don't know many people in the area. A Good Friend can keep you company and help you settle in.
  • Do you need a hand with the wheelie bin? It's no trouble for a Good Friend to pop round, to put it out and return it on collection day.
  • You may need help with the shopping, or would even like to venture in to online shopping! There is sure to be a Good Friend in your area who can help.

All Good Friends volunteers are vetted, and we look to match based on your needs and location so that they do not have too far to travel.

There are other benefits to getting involved too - such as help our army of snow shovelers who will clear your path in winter so you can pop out to the doctors or to do some shopping.
