The Age UK Darlington day centre makes an important contribution to the lives of the older generation by acting as a preventative measure for problems caused by lack of social interaction and stimulation. It assists older people to continue to lead an independent life by allowing them dignity and independence through activities and events provided.

Customers have many opportunities to contribute to the life of the day centre, through activities that encourage interaction for all involved. These services are part of a range of services Age UK Darlington has to offer to support you to stay in your own home and help you to lead as independent a life as possible.

Carers UK give free telephone advice and guidance for older people on searching for care and support services, either in the community or in residential care and on all aspects of funding care for older people.

The Direct Payments Support Service can be contacted for information on Direct Payments. These are payments provided by the local authority for you to arrange the care service which you have been assessed as needing, with the benefit that arranging your own services can give you greater control over how your needs are met.

You may be concerned about someone, whether you are a relative, a neighbour or a member of the public. Someone may tell you something that has happened to them or you may see or hear something happening to someone that makes you feel uneasy or uncomfortable.

The priority is to keep people safe from harm. The seriousness or extent of abuse is difficult to identify when the abuse is first recognised. Where there is any concern at all, this should be reported for further investigation. We will respond to all concerns.

There are several ways you can report abuse. These include:

St Hilda's Day Centre offers social stimulation and companionship in a therapeutic atmosphere, for people over 65 years, with mild, moderate and severe dementia. Support is offered in a Carers Group, carers can also access other Darlington Mind services e.g., counselling and IT training. This service is provided by Darlington MIND
