Good Friends Reunited for the First Time in 30 Years

11:56 AM, Mar 18 2014

Two long-lost friends were re-united today (Friday, 14 March 2014) after a Good Friend was recognised in the local Northern Echo as part of the Winter Warmth campaign. Ernest (pictured right) enquired about the Good Friends initiative after reading a leaflet he picked up form the Darlington Falls Clinic. He initially looked towards receiving some help with shopping in times of bad weather but after being introduced to his Good Friend, Liz, they now see each other regularly to socialise. The pair attended a recent 40's/50's Themed event day at Age UK Darlington to promote the Good Friends Initiative and Winter Warmth campaign.

After appearing in the Northern Echo, long lost friend and work colleague, Ian, contacted Good Friends to see if he could regain contact with Ernest, whom he had not seen in over three decades. The pair, along with Good Friend Liz agreed to meet at Café Refresh, where they ate lunch and reminiced about their past careers.

Ernest praised the Good Friends Initiative by saying "It is a marvellous idea. I would not have met Ian again if I hadn't got in touch with Age UK (Good Friends)."

The pair received media attention with coverage in the Northern Echo (link here) and were also filmed as part of a BBC Look North feature which will air on the week beginning 24th March 2014.
